The BPI-MT7165 is known to have TX/RX speed imbalance issues with OpenWrt [1] [2] and the TX power is limited to 6dbm [1] [2]. This is due to the MT7615 stock EEPROM and can be fixed by using a custom kernel module that loads a different EEPROM for MT7615 devices.
This step is optional, as the MT7615 will work just fine, but the benefits of using another EEPROM can drastically improve the speed and reliability of your wireless network. It takes about 1 hour.

WiFi 7 Support

The BPI-R4-NIC-BE14 supports WiFi 7 and is apparently working with OpenWrt [1] [2] [3].
As soon as I’m able to test it properly I will make sure to update this guide.
